Sick Of Stained Carpets?

Carpet stains are incredibly unsightly and sometimes, not even scrubbing will get the stains out. Esco Refresh shares with you the best way to remove stains so that your carpet is quickly restored to its original condition.

1: Remove Solids

Always remove as much of the solid matter as possible using a spatula or blunt knife edge. Do this as soon as possible so that the stain isn’t left to dry – it will be harder to remove. Using something sharp can cut your carpet and damage the fibres, so avoid this.

2: Blot the stain

While the stain is fresh, it is important to blot the stain. Remove as much of the liquid as possible with white paper towels or tissues. Use white paper towels as coloured ones can transfer the colour to your carpet, adding to the problem. Apply the tissue with a firm, even pressure and gently press down. Repeat this as many times as required until you can no longer lift any liquid.

3: Pre-Test products

With any chemical product you should ALWAYS pre-test it in a hidden area, such as under a sofa or behind furniture. This test will prevent you damaging your carpet.

4: Remove The Stain

The type of stain dictates the products that you will need to use so read instructions carefully before buying a product.

Apply a small amount of your spotting agent to the carpet and blot gently with a clean, new white towel. Do not rub, brush or over-wet the area. You should keep applying and blotting your product until the stain is gone.

5: Rinse The Area

Use a fabric rinse or water to rinse the area and remove all traces of the spotting agents. It is important not to over-wet the area, but to apply just a small amount and blot repeatedly.

6: Reset The Fibres

Be sure to brush fibres back into place so that the area blends with the rest of your carpet. Work from the outer edge to the centre in order to prevent ring marks forming. Use a soft brush to prevent any damage to your carpet.
