Around the world, the equivalent to 300,000 trees are dumped everyday, and around 10 per cent of that waste is toilet paper.
There is a regular increase on paper demand from both developed and developing countries. But, at the same time, there are strong efforts being made by organisations and governments to save old growth forests.
This means that the paper industry is moving into tree plantations to keep up with the supply. While this looks like a good solution at a glance, the fact is it is actually displacing regional species due to the use of strong fertilisers. Toilet paper is responsible of this turn into tree plantations as its demand is higher every day.
Some companies now are turning to recycled toilet paper, which use less row material and water on its production.
Just something to consider when you next purchase the essentials!
