Germs Are Everywhere – Really!

There are zillions of germs living on the umpteen surfaces you touch, which could explain why 80% of infections are spread the same way. What you may consider to be the safest surfaces to touch may in fact be the germiest…

Whether germs are viral, bacterial, or fungal, some can remain active on most surfaces for several days – no matter whether the surface is stainless steel, wood, plastic or even paper in a magazine. When you then touch that surface, it is transmitted to your hands.

The best way to prevent these problems of course is to never touch these “problem” surfaces. But it is not easy to do.

Germs are everywhere and the key to removing them is with regular cleaning and disinfecting. Because this regular clean isn’t done on many public surfaces, this is why they’ll be the most likely places you will encounter germs.

How many of these surfaces have you encountered this summer?

Picnic Tables

Picnic tables are never cleaned or disinfected and birds like to roost on them, especially on picnic tables near a pond or in the shade. Never eat from a picnic table, or even touch the surface unless you have your own tablecloth.

Playgrounds

Some are even worse than picnic tables, and they’re bad enough! It is the monkey bars that may the worse affected as they are used by small children who rarely wash their hands. It is best to especially avoid tables and benches where parents may change their child’s nappies.

Airport Bathrooms

The problem isn’t that airport bathrooms aren’t cleaned and disinfected as they are. It is that so many people use these bathrooms that cleaners just can’t keep up with the influx of germs from around the world.

Typically, the areas of these bathrooms that people worry about most – the door handles – are actually the cleanest and the taps are the dirtiest.

Hotel Rooms

As a general rule, the higher the price the cleaner the room. This may not always be the case, but one thing is for sure, the TV remote is the germiest place here – it is NEVER cleaned.
