Did you know that many of the consumables that you buy, be it toilet rolls, hand towels or bin liners, have absolutely no regulations attached regarding quality, quantity or length of product? If your box of Bin Liners says “200″, this does not necessarily mean that there are 200 liners in there. Likewise, a “150″ Centrepull roll doesn’t necessarily mean 150metres, nor will a 150 Mini Jumbo. Sometimes the products are completely unmarked so you have absolutely no idea what you are buying! Many unscrupulous suppliers can use this to their advantage as variations can be as great as 10 – 15%.

So how do you avoid the pitfalls? One way is to check to see if the products are Cleaning and Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) Approved. One of the fundamental aims of the Association is to raise standards in the cleaning industry. The CHSA has taken the initiative reduce confusion, and clarify labelling for the end user, with the introduction of the Manufacturing Standard Accreditation Scheme. Those companies who register for the Scheme undertake to fully label all their products with lengths, widths and sheet counts as appropriate and guarantee that the product in the box meets the specification on the label. Such companies are permitted to feature the approved Accreditation logo on their packs and literature which allows end users to easily identify those products which can be bought with total confidence.

So ask your supplier if they supply CHSA Approved goods, and make sure YOU are getting what YOU are paying for!!!
